Location, charming, wonderful staff. Outdated hotel and rooms but worth the money.

Very close to the railway station. Despite the location in the center, the hotel is pretty quiet. Most of the facilities aren't new and far from describing as "modern", but thanks to that, Splendid Inn has it's unique feel. Scent of colonial times mixed with faded luxury. It's not just another hotel on your way that you'll soon forget. Splendid Inn has a history and charm. Staff is very nice and helpful. They don't bother you with offers of trips, as they don't have any :) That's not an issue, as nearby travel agencies have them. Wi-fi available in the huge and comfy lobby.
Bathroom could be renovated a bit. But it's clean enough.

Big comfortable room with lots of old furniture. Every room seems to have slightly different furniture. Love the old dutch colonial style. The bathroom was also huge and somewhat old fashioned. They could redo the place, upgrade everything to elegant colonial style (ala The Strand in Yangon) and then charge four times as much for a room but then it would loose it's quirkiness (and I couldn't afford to stay there).

The ambiance of an old planter's hotel: very characteristic. In my opinion the hotel certainly has a future, but should position itself in a niche market and emphasising its link with the past. There it would not have [m]any competitor[s].
The owner seems to let the hotel slowly die, instead of either selling it off, replacing it with a modern guesthouse/hotel, or maintaining its grandeur. The staff is nervous about their future ...
